The vision statement of the River of Life Christian Centre in fulfilling this vision and mission in brief, but in conjunction with the more detailed “Methodist Church Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults” policy document which we use with their very kind permission.
NB: Being a “Free Church”, some references to the hierarchal, leadership and officer structure in the Methodist Church as set out in their document are not applicable to the River of Life Christian Centre.
"We” in this policy statement refers to the leadership and all those working under the authority of the leadership within the confines of the River of Life Christian Centre and its official off-site events.
We welcome children and vulnerable adults into our Christian Centre
We have a programme of inclusive age related events for children
We recognise our responsibilities for the safeguarding of all young people under the age of 18 and vulnerable adults regardless of gender, ethnicity or ability as set out in the “Methodist Church Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults” policy
We commit ourselves to nurturing, protecting and safekeeping everyone entrusted to our care and will pray for them regularly
We commit ourselves to the following policies and to the development of procedures to ensure their implementation
We assume the duty and privilege of doing everything within our power to prevent the physical, sexual and emotional abuse of children or vulnerable adults
We assume the duty and privilege to respond to concerns about children and to report any child abuse disclosed, discovered or suspected.
We will fully co-operate with any statutory investigation into any suspected abuse linked with the River of Life Christian Centre
We will exercise proper care in the selection and appointment of those working with children and vulnerable adults, whether paid or volunteer.
We will ensure that all workers are provided with appropriate training, support and supervision to promote the safekeeping of children and vulnerable adults
We have a code of behaviour for all who are appointed to work with children and vulnerable adults so that everyone is shown the respect that is due to them.
We are committed to providing a safe environment for activities with children and vulnerable adults and will pursue ways of working with them that promote their own safety and well-being.
We are committed to the prevention of bullying of children and vulnerable adults
We will always seek to ensure the appropriate behaviour of any who may pose a risk to children, young people and vulnerable adults whilst at the River of Life Christian Centre and its official off-site events.
It is impossible in a policy such as this to cover every scenario so we will be diligent in every aspect, situation and event whether on or off-site of the River of Life Christian Centre
Further guidance will be taken by the Safeguarding Team if and when necessary.
A copy of this policy statement is displayed permanently on the notice board, office, and website of the River of Life Christian Centre
Each worker with children, young people and vulnerable adult whether paid or voluntary has been given and has accepted a copy of this policy statement, and is required to follow it.
A full copy of the “Methodist Church Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults” will be made available on request to any member of the River of Life church family, parents or carers of any child, young person or vulnerable adult attending the River of Life Christian Centre.
This policy and procedures will be reviewed at least annually, with updates made in accordance with law and best practice.
