Where everyone is somebody and Jesus is Lord

Thought for the week commencing July 30th 2010

(Published weekly on Fridays at about 10.00am GMT)

Isn't it great when our Lord chooses to remind us, at just the right time, something that happened at some time previous.

I had a moment like this recently when our Lord reminded me of the day we were wandering through the outskirts of our favourite and very pretty Cornish coastal town. For those not aware of Cornwall it's the most south-western part of England pointing out into the Atlantic Ocean.

So, we were walking and came across a rather large brand new house. We knew we couldn't buy it but the salesman very kindly let us have a look around. It was a very impressive, beautiful house, not as good as our future mansion in the sky, but beautiful nontheless.

On entering the lounge we both gasped as we looked across the room through the huge window at the amazing view. The harbour, the sea, almost the whole town - wow!

We turned to see the salesman chuckling at our reaction. He liked to watch people as they entered this room. He went on to say that not everyone saw the view, but focused on the fact that the foreground of the view was dominated by the "Park and ride" car park which was just over the dividing hedge, and the leisure centre off to the left.

For us, we had the bigger picture. We saw the view and didn't notice the foreground. We saw the ultimate - not the immediate. So much better.

The Lord showed me that sometimes we get so distracted by our circumstances, our worries etc. that we only see the car park, the foreground, the immediate.

He wants us to look to Him "I lift my eyes to the hills, from whence comth my help - my help comes from the Lord".

As the song says :-

Turn your eyes upon Jesus

Look full in His wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of His glory and grace

Let us all decide today to look beyond our circumstances into the eyes of our wonderful Lord Jesus - He knows all about our "car park", the foreground, the immediate. Let Him have your struggle and worries - leave it all with Him!
