Remembrance Sunday - November 8th 2009
Reflections on the service
Our service commenced at 11.00am in a rather unorthodox way.
Rather than have the two minutes silence straightaway, this year we made it informative and accessible for the children who join us.
The church was full today spanning an age range of 2years-90years
We started with a wartime song, followed by a short drama which brought home the reality of the loss of a son and soldier. Kim Spring played the part of the mum, Kieron, her son, then notified (voice over by ex soldier Bob Case) as "killed in action" culminating with an invitation to stand for the "Last Post", two minutes silence, the Reveille, and the "Ode to Remembrance" spoken by ex soldier Mike Woodman. We then sing "God save the Queen"
A short pause and we then went into a period of worship, the children and youth went upstairs in the church for their groups, and the congregation listened to "The Names of Jesus" visual on Powerpoint before sharing communion.
