A totally Christian Church
Come and see what God has done; His awesome deeds for us! Psalm 66:5
10th December 2017
We’ve spent two recent Wednesdays considering personal prayer, following feedback from the women’s film afternoon. One was a message in which some very helpful tips and principles were shared, and a particularly helpful pattern for daily prayer (available soon on the church website, or ask at the office). The second occasion was at our monthly “First Wednesday” meeting, at which the discussion round the tables was very lively and helpful - proof that the Lord has given wisdom to many people, and when we share it with each other we grow.
Oasis coffee shop has been busier recently, and the lovely atmosphere of friendship and fellowship is a huge encouragement. One or two hectic days nearly exhausted the staff, but it was worth it! We love the hustle and bustle when the knitting group, or the women’s Bible study group, or the Friday praise and worship group arrive. Book your lunch early to make sure your favourite meal isn’t sold out! It’s such a blessing to hear worthwhile conversation, rather than gossipy chatter.
One of our quieter, but very valuable meetings is the Tuesday Praise and Communion, followed by Keep Fit to Christian Music. A group of 7 or 8 people determined to keep their souls and their bodies healthy. And afterwards, they each contribute towards our humanitarian community fund, which supports the help we give to needy people. We recently made a donation of £100 towards Bristol Homeless Outreach, who feed the homeless at Christmas and all year round. Some of our men will be getting involved in that work. We need to pray that they will find opportunities to speak hope into the lives of many who are suffering crisis.
We’re all so busy preparing for Christmas, of course, but most of all we’re anticipating Christmas at the River! Our Carol Service will be at 11am next Sunday 17th December, and our short “Thank You Jesus” service will be at 10:30am on Christmas Day! Don’t miss them! And don’t miss out on the blessings which God made possible when He sent the Messiah Jesus to be our Saviour!
